I hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas holiday and a very Happy New Year! Have any of you made any New Years resolutions? I would love to hear them

2011 has been quite a tough year I’m sure for most so I am really looking forward to the events to come in 2012, I hope to travel more especially in the Summer, like taking lots more road trips down the French and Italian coasts, learn new things, make new friends and really focus on the growth of the blog.

How did you spend your Holidays?

I spent Christmas at home with family and then traveled to Switzerland to a town called Villars, where I used to go to a British International boarding school called Aiglon College. I also met my boyfriend Diego there :) .

His family live in Villars and every New Year there are lots of Aiglon Alumni there as well so it is nice to catch up with everyone and celebrate together.

El Gringos Nightclub

We all celebrated New Years in a Chinese/Swiss restaurant called Vieux Villars and had Fondue Bourguignon. If you do not know what this is it simply consists of a metal pot of boiling hot oil in the middle of the table with skewers, usually accompagnied by  tenderloin or sirloin cut into bite size pieces. Served with either french fries & / or vegetables and 5 or 6 sauces. Steak sauce, BBQ sauce, Terriyaki sauce, Hot mustard, Bearnaise sauce etc…

This is a typically Swiss meal but a very social and tasty one!

After dinner we headed to “El Gringo” the local Villars nightclub with everyone it was lots of fun and brought back plenty of memories of good times back in high school with friends…

I couldn’t wait to get up and go skiing as Villars is also a ski resort so it really is the perfect Winter destination getaway and has many quaint Swiss style restaurants to choose from… Who can resist fondue and hot wine!

:D

During our time in Switzerland we tried a new restaurant called “Cookie” Bar & Restaurant, its just outside of Villars in Gryon, Owned by an Australian family with International dishes on the menu. They also offer Sea food and that evening had a Seared Tuna as Plat du Jour which everyone at the table ordered except me! I went for an Irish Rib Eye which was to die for… They also have a few asian starters and mains which sounded lovely, I definitely recommend and cannot wait to go back next time.

In the ski resort of Bretaye they also have a snack bar called “Cookie Cafe” which serves all types of savory and sweet snacks during the day.

Last year we also came to Villars to celebrate New Years and I decided I had to have a typically Swiss cheese fondue meal while we were there, Diego and his sister chose a restaurant hidden in the middle of a ski piste called “La Refuge de Frience”. This is a must try! The fondue was to die for, the location is quite magical at night, you have to drive there park and a very short walk onto the piste to get to it.
It is a typical Swiss chalet with Swiss decor. We didn’t have time to go there this time which I am devastated about but next time we go will be well worth the wait!

We went on plenty of walks with my now 4 year old puppy Troy the most gorgeous Beagle in the world ;) He is such a hunter at heart but so affectionate. I just love how his Dog house is absolutely buried beneath the snow! Villars is an amazing little town, I am so lucky to have grown up surrounded by these overpowering mountains

Yes I am frozen here!

Large and Little footprints in the snow by Diego and Troy…
